OK, so What's the Difference Between "Art" and "Artwork"?

Good question, huh? Well, the former is a diverse range of human activities in creating visual, auditory, or performing artifacts (artworks) expressing the artist's imaginative or technical skill, intended to be appreciated for their beauty or emotional power. In their most general form, these activities include production, criticism, study of the history, and aesthetic dissemination. Above all, art is a form of communication.

On the other hand, artwork (i.e., a "work of art") is an aesthetic physical item or artistic creation, like pictures made through the practice of photography. The term applies principally to tangible, portable forms of visual art. So, one could say that artwork is a subset of the more general field of art.

The Many Flavors of Aesthetic Expression

As you browse our extensive selection, you'll notice a broad range of popular and famous people, such as Batman, Captain America, Superman, Iron Man, Thor, Wonder Woman, Indiana Jones, Elvis Presley, and Mickey Mouse.
