The name Nintendo is synonymous with
games and gaming. In addition to consoles such as Game Boy, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo DS, Wii, and Nintendo Switch, the company has created major franchises that include Mario, Donkey Kong, The Legend of Zelda, Pokémon, Kirby, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Splatoon, Star Fox, Xenoblade Chronicles, and Super Smash Bros. Founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, Nintendo Karuta initially produced handmade Japanese hanafuda playing cards and eventually distributed its first video game console, the Color TV-Game, in 1977. The Nintendo Entertainment System arrived in 1985 under the current company name. Along with the fun games comes the awesome merchandise.
