The Walt Disney Company, based in Burbank, California, is the third largest media and entertainment corporation in the world. Founded on October 16, 1923 by brothers Walt and Roy Disney as a small animation studio, it has become one of the biggest Hollywood studios, and owner of 11 theme parks and several television networks, including the American Broadcasting Company (ABC).
Walt Disney Pictures is a main motion-picture producing studio of The Walt Disney Company and a subsidiary of the Walt Disney Studio Entertainment sector of the organization. In keeping with Disney's family-friendly image, it released only G- and PG-rated films until 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was rated PG-13.
