The Lone Ranger was a long-running early radio and television show produced by George W. Trendle, and created by writer Fran Striker. The titular character was a masked Texas Ranger in the American Old West, who galloped about righting injustices, usually with the aid of a clever and laconic American Indian called Tonto, and his horse Silver. He would famously say "Hi-yo Silver, away!" to get the horse to gallop.
Based on the radio serial of the same name, The Lone Ranger is also a 2013 American action-adventure western film produced by Walt Disney Pictures and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, and directed by Gore Verbinski. The movie stars Armie Hammer in the title role and Johnny Depp as Tonto. It marks the first theatrical film featuring the Lone Ranger character in over 32 years.
