Say the Magic Word and These Shazam! Toys Can Be Yours!
Formerly known as Captain Marvel, this fictional comic book superhero is the brainchild of writer Bill Parker and artist C. C. Beck, who created the character in 1939. He
first appeared in February 1940's Whiz Comics #2, published by Fawcett Comics, and believe it or not was the most popular superpowered character of the 1940s, outselling even Superman! He's the alter ego of Billy Batson, an orphaned 12-year-old New York City boy who by speaking a magic word that's an acronym formed of the first letters of the names of six "immortal elders" - Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury - can transform himself into a full-grown adult with superhuman strength, speed, flight, and other magical powers and abilities. It's also the first full-length feature film ever centered on the hero. So, don't miss Shazam! the movie, and don't miss all the fun toys and collectibles below that are based on it and the exciting character!

Trouble in New York City… or Is That Fawcett City?
In 1953, Fawcett Comics stopped publishing Captain Marvel-related comics, in part because of a copyright infringement suit that alleged the character was a copy of DC Comics' Superman. Many years later, in 1972, DC licensed the Marvel Family characters from Fawcett and brought them to the publishing world again. Along with that transition, Billy's hometown that had been originally referred to as New York City became Fawcett City in later publications.
How Captain Marvel Became Shazam
Following his 1972 reintroduction, and due to trademark conflicts over another character named "Captain Marvel" that was owned by Marvel Comics, DC decided to brand and market its comics using the trademark Shazam!. Not surprisingly, this led many people to assume that this was also the character's name. So, DC later officially renamed the character when relaunching its comic book properties in 2011. How about that?
