Bud Mahurin was an outstanding fighter pilot with the famed 56th Fighter Group over Europe during World War 2 where he scored 20 kills flying the massive Republic P-47 Thunderbolt. During the Korean conflict he served with Gabby Gabreski in the 51st FIW and scored 3.5 kills operating the North American F-86 Sabre.
