One of very few female pirates, Anne Bonny was feared and revered as one of the most notorious pirates ever to sail the seas. Not content with her mundane life as a sailor's wife, Anne was attracted to a rakish pirate by the name of Calico Jack Rackham. She desire the freedoms that a life at sea could offer, but was trapped on land by her unhappy marriage. Calico Jack offered to buy her from her husband, but Anne refused to be sold as property, and told Jack she would join him at sea, but only as his equal. She was 19 years old.
