The character Great Baan Gaan is based on the Japanese mecha-action series, Yuusha Seisen Baan Gaan (or Crusade of the Braves Baan Gaan). The Yuusha series (or Brave Saga) first started at February 1990 by the broadcasting of Yuusha Exkaiser. The Yuusha series was created by Sunrise and Takara, who also created the Transformers line of toys. A number of supporting characters and enemies across the Brave Series had designs or remolds derived from earlier Generation One Takara Transformers designs, most notably those of Transformers: Zone and Transformers Battlestars: Return of Convoy. The enemy "Geister" characters in Brave Exkaiser except their leader, Dino Geist, were actually remolds of first-generation Dinobot toys.
