It's made from highly polished, fine-quality, natural and synthetic materials. Semi-precious stones and sumptuous woods and leathers were used in production of the mural. Each Walt Disney Signature Stone mural is a one-of-a-kind original in an incredibly limited run, due to the exclusive nature of the materials and the process used to make these stunning works of art.
Pietre Dure is a mosaic technique or more specifically, a type of stone marquetry that originated in Rome and later reached its zenith in Florence, Italy in the 1600s and 1700s. It's sometimes called Florentine Mosaic. Marble and many other types of semi-precious stones are carved and cut into small pieces. These small pieces are fitted together with no visible interstices (joints between the pieces) to make a painting that depicts landscapes or other subjects from the world. The texture of the stone mimics that found in nature: clouds, mountains, or leaves and flowers. Pietre Dure also means hard or durable stones.
