In the 1980 film The Empire Strikes Back, we saw the Rebel Alliance take refuge on the icy planet of Hoth with the Empire hot on their heels. Snowtroopers, also known as Cold Assault Stormtroopers, were Imperial forces specifically trained to operate in arctic climates. Their most notable conquest was at the Battle of Hoth, where the Imperial onslaught defeated the forces of the alliance to restore the Republic and overran the Rebel stronghold, Echo Base.
