Description
Game of Thrones Silver Stag of Eddard Stark Coin:This Game of Thrones Silver Stag of Eddard Stark Coin is the second silver piece to bear his likeness. Made of .999 fine silver, it weighs about 3 1/10 grams and measures approximately 9/10-inches in diameter. The dies are done in an early Nordic style reminiscent of the medieval silver coinage of Northern Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries CE. The obverse features a facing portrait of the Warden bearing the famous Ice sword and a round shield, with the inscription "EDDARD STARK" around in classic style. The reverse features a snarling dire wolf head, mascot and sigil of House Stark, and the inscription "WINTERFELL." The coin is undated (like most ancient coins) but is thought to have been struck at the castle armory of Winterfell toward the end of Eddard's tenure.
The last ruler of the independent North Kingdom was Torrhen Stark, whose castle at Winterfell features heavily in the first of author George R.R. Martin's novels. Eddard (or Ned) Stark is Torrhen's descendant and Warden of the North. Ages 13 and up.
