The design of this coin is based on a facet of the story of A Dance with Dragons in which Arya describes several coins, one of which is the Volantis Honor that is no bigger than a Seven Kingdoms penny, bearing a crown on one side and a death's head on the other. Fashioned of cartridge brass, emulating the color of the "gold honor" coin, this Game of Thrones Golden Honor of Volantis Type 1 Coin weighs 4 grams and measures about 4/5-inch in diameter, roughly the size of a U.S. penny.

The text on the reverse side is High Valarian that reads "ELYR ANOGRO ELI VALI." This translates to "The First Men of the First Blood." This is how the Volantin describe themselves, prideful of being the earliest colony from fabled Valyria before the Fall. The crown bears an Elephant sigil of the ruling power of the triarchy of Volantis that has held the majority for the past 300 years.

Volantis is ruled over by three triarchs, each of whom rules for a year. Each year, the freeborn landholders of Volantis can elect a new triarch or reelect a current one. There are precious few voters west of the river Rhoyne. The elections are ten days of madness, with much campaigning and bribery. Only those of old blood who can trace their ancestry back to Valyria can be a triarch. The triarchs belong to either the Elephant or Tiger political parties. The Elephants are the party of the merchants and moneylenders, while the Tigers are old aristocracy and warriors. The Elephants advocate trade, and the Tigers advocate the sword. Ages 13 and up.
