Popeye the Sailor is a famous fictional hero created by Elzie Crisler Segar. He first appeared in the daily King Features comic strip Thimble Theatre on January 17, 1929.
Popeye has appeared in cartoon shorts, comic books, television cartoons, a 1980 live-action film, arcade and video games, and hundreds of advertisements and peripheral products. He's an independent sailor with a unique way of speaking, muscular forearms, and an ever-present corncob pipe.
