New Trailer for The Hobbit Revealed

The first trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies was released at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, thrilling fans of the fantasy film trilogy as dwarves, elves, wizards, humans, and a hobbit face the destruction of Lake-town by the vicious dragon, Smaug. Attendees of Hall H first witnessed the romance, danger, and action-packed drama of the final film’s teaser alongside the cast and crew of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings films.

The song itself foreshadows the ensuing battle in Five Armies without revealing too much of the plot, which lends an emotional tone to the preview.

Stephen Colbert, who is an avid J.R.R. Tolkien fan, moderated the panel dressed as the character he cameoed as in The Hobbit. After the upcoming film’s preview, director Peter Jackson joked, “That was really just for you, Stephen,” adding, “I mean, the other people are here, as well.”

But it was not just Colbert who was enthusiastic about the film. Jackson was joined in Friday’s celebration by Kate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Evangeline Lilly, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Andy Serkis – all of whom worked on the film.

With this sensational trailer and now a dramatic new poster released on Friday, Tolkien fans have something new to fawn over this holiday season.

The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies premieres December 17th!
