David Yates in Talks to Direct Fantastic Beasts

The wizarding world will travel across the pond to New York in the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Inside sources claim that David Yates, known for directing several Harry Potter films, is in talks to direct Fantastic Beasts. J.K. Rowling will make her screenwriting debut with this intrepid film.

The new film is neither a prequel nor sequel to the Harry Potter series, but expands the global magic community. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them began as a textbook for Potter and his classmates and is currently being adapted into a film following its author, Newt Scamander, as he seeks out magical creatures. Fantastic Beasts takes place in the early 1920s and features Magizoologist Scamander with his wizarding exploits.

Describing the story, Rowling said “The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”

While Yates is the name for the director, no one has been cast for the lead role of Newt Scamander. Daniel Radcliffe, the Boy Who Lived, also stated that he has no plans to reprise his role as the bespectacled hero.

Potter producer David Heyman commented, “All I can say that it’s great. Jo had no need to go back to the universe or world. She’s chosen to do so because she felt the need to tell a story. That she’s doing it means that it’s going to be very, very special.”

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is slated to hits theaters on November 18, 2016.
