Fans who tuned into The Late Show with David Letterman had the opportunity to see Vocaloid sensation Hatsune Miku in her US television debut.
Hatsune Miku is a Japanese pop star but that’s a minor detail compared to her existence as a virtual hologram. On The Late Show, she performed in her typical hologram form alongside live accompaniment. She sang “Sharing the World” and waved to Letterman at the end of her song.
This performance comes before an art show dedicated to the virtual idol. Hatsune Miku Expo will take place in Los Angeles and New York City from Octobre 9 to 19. The expo will showcase her popularity and include performances. The future is now and Hatsune Miku is taking the music scene by storm.
Hatsune Miku is the most popular and well known Vocaloid, with a huge following as a music sensation. She truly brought Vocaloid into the market. The original concept behind Miku was to have a bilingual Japanese and English Vocaloid. Her songs are built from a voice bank, originally provided by Japanese voice actress Saki Fujita.
Her design is reminiscent of the Yahama synthesizer’s signature blue and green color scheme, while presenting the Vocaloid as an android. She represents both an android character as well as the synthesizers that help create her music and existence.
