Robert Downey Jr. In Talks for Major Role in Captain America 3

Robert Downey Jr.

Good news for Iron Man fans – Robert Downey Jr. will don the Iron Man suit at least three more times! Variety reports that Downey is in final negotiations to appear in Captain America 3.

His Tony Stark character will appear in three films thus far: The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America 3, and The Avengers 3. The Captain America 3 storyline will pit Captain America against Iron Man in Marvel Comic’s Civil War storyline.

In it, the government passes a superhero registration act, which requires those with special powers to reveal themselves to the government in order to help law enforcement. According to Variety, Iron Man is okay with it, while Captain America sees it a violation of civil liberties and joins the underground. The moral battle in Captain America 3 between Stark and his Avengers teammate essentially makes Stark a “villian of sorts,” according to Variety. This meaty role for Downey could play out into future Marvel films, including a fourth Avengers.

Robert Downey Jr. is expected to earn about $40 million and a share of the box office for his screen time, if the deal goes through. This would mean a major payday for Downey, whose previous Iron Man movies earned $2.4 billion worldwide.

Do you think the deal will go through? If so, how do you feel about Iron Man playing a more villainous role? Let us know in the comments below!
