8 Best Moments in Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer

Okay, you’ve all seen it, right? I’m going to assume you’ve all seen the first official trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. If not, please watch now before proceeding because we’re about to break this down for you.

All, if not most, of this is speculation right now. The trailer opens on a shot of Tatooine desert with a Sith-like narrator saying: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” No confirmation yet on who the narrator is (actor or character) but we think it’s either Andy Serkis or Max von Sydow.

Next, we see John Boyega in a Stormtrooper outfit sans helmet in Tatooine desert. He’s visibly sweating and distressed – a crash landing or chase perhaps? We believe this will be early on in the film.

Here’s a great looking R2 unit, speeding along on Tatooine.

Confirmation of the new Stormtrooper helmets! It looks like they’re being deployed, could this be how John Boyega’s character landed on Tatooine? And is he the Stormtrooper this shot focuses on?

Daisy Ridley on a speeder (still Tatooine)! Many speculate that she is playing the daughter of Han and Leia (not Jaina since this film does not follow the Expanded Universe) or a Tatooine local. She’s clearly going somewhere in a hurry. She also has a Tusken Raider staff on her speeder.

Oscar Isaac as a Rebel pilot, looking a little worse for wear. The following shot is 3 T-65 X-Wing Fighters flying over what appears to be a body of water with mountains behind them.

The narrator speaks again, simply stating: “The Dark Side…” We see a Sith walking in a forest covered by snow at night. They ignite their red lightsaber, a ragged blade that looks like a broadsword! The flickering blade makes us think this is not a uniform lightsaber. No confirmation on who this character is, whether Adam Driver or Domhnall Gleeson or perhaps even Lupita Nyong’o!

Before the final scene of the trailer, the narrator finishes his previous statement with “…and the Light.” Then we get the most exciting scene yet: the Millennium Falcon, accompanied by John Williams’ familiar theme, flying away from TIE Fighters and doing some really cool barrel rolls in, yet again, the Tatooine desert.
