The Marvel Cinematic Universe Just Got Stranger

Doctor Strange

Marvel news is the gift that keeps on giving.

We officially have a new, mystical lead to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Benedict Cumberbatch, long rumored for this role, is officially cast as Doctor Strange.

Doctor Strange tells the story of neurosurgeon Stephen Strange who, after a horrific car accident, discovers the world of magic and alternate dimensions. This casting comes as no surprise to fans since Cumberbatch’s name has long been attached to the project. However, when President of Marvel Studios Kevin Feige didn’t announce Doctor Strange’s casting with the Phase 3 movie announcement, fans were left wondering. The official announcement came today and we now have our mystical Marvel hero.

Stephen Strange was first name-dropped in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, subtly telling fans that we may indeed be seeing him sometime in the MCU.

About the casting, Kevin Feige said: “In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character.” The movie is scheduled to come out November 4, 2016, with Scott Derrickson directing and Jon Spaihts penning the script.

What do you think of these casting choices? If they’re not your first choices, who do you prefer? Let us know in the comments!
