Marvel Makes Powerful Move in Casting First Female Defender

If you thought that Doctor Strange casting announcement was the end of the big news from Marvel, you missed something truly epic.

Following Doctor Strange, there was a second Marvel casting announcement. Krysten Ritter is officially confirmed as Jessica Jones in Marvel’s upcoming Netflix series The Defenders. In the comics, “The Defenders” are a team comprised of individualistic “outsiders”. The team for this Netflix series consists of Matt Murdock AKA Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Danny Rand AKA Iron Fist.

Jessica Jones, sometimes known as Jewel, Knightress, or Power Woman, possesses the superhuman powers of strength, resilience, and flying as well as being a skilled detective and investigative journalist suffering PTSD. In the comics, she’s married to Luke Cage so we look forward to seeing them explore that relationship.

We now know half the team. Charlie Cox was announced as Daredevil some time ago. Along with Ritter’s announcement, Mike Colter’s name is rumored for Luke Cage. Each team member will get their own 13 episode series on Netflix, with Daredevil premiering first sometime in 2015. There will also be a miniseries of the whole team together, which we presume will be the end of run. This team is set to take on “the gritty world of heroes and villains of Hell’s Kitchen, New York.”

What do you think of this casting, Marvel fans? Are you excited for The Defenders? Let us know in the comments!
