Update: Marvel’s Released a Human-Sized Trailer for Ant-Man

So you’ve seen the ant-sized trailer for Ant-Man, but are you ready for the human-sized trailer?

Here it is: the full-length trailer for Ant-Man, Marvel’s newest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) which you can watch below. Also below is the cover of an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly which features our hero.

Now we have a little more context for the MCU’s origin story of Scott Lang aka the second Ant-Man, played by Paul Rudd in the film. As a refresher, the official synopsis for the film is as follows:

“The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”

The full-length trailer truly reflects the changes in Scott Lang’s backstory. It erases the messy history of Lang, who originally became Ant-Man by stealing Hank Pym’s suit to save his daughter’s life. While the trailer emphasizes the relationship between Lang and his daughter (thank goodness), Pym recruits Lang to become the second Ant-Man, with Lang as a “special chosen one”. It’s an interesting choice and one that I’m curious to see how they explore. Luckily Paul Rudd seems very endearing in the role so far.

Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed, and starring Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Corey Stoll, Michael Douglas, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Peña, Judy Greer, Tip “Ti” Harris, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, and Jordi Mollà, will hit theaters on July 17, 2015.
