New Penny Dreadful Season 2 Trailer Is Not for the Faint of Heart

Showtime’s original series Penny Dreadful definitely brought the creepy factor in its first season but it looks like they’re upping that for Season 2. A trailer was released, which you can watch below, and it’s quite a fright.

The show is based on penny dreadfuls, a type of 19th-century cheap British fiction publication with lurid and sensational subject matter. It takes real life characters from Irish and British fiction of this type, including Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

The trailer plays to the tune of a slowed down version of the folk “An Unquiet Grave”, sung by none other than Season 1 supporting character Madame Kali (Helen McCroy) while she lounges in a bath full of blood.

If that’s not enough to get your heart racing, there are several other things that look like they’re straight out of a nightmare, including someone with a pentagram burned onto their chest, Brona Croft (Billie Piper) emerging from water who we last saw with Frankenstein after he murdered her, and what we think might be the Phantom of the Opera.

The trailer ends with a voiceover from Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives: “When Lucifer fell… he did not fall alone.”

Penny Dreadful Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on Sunday, April 26th at 10 pm ET/PT on Showtime.
