Jared Leto’s Transformation Into the Joker Begins

Suicide Squad might not come out until next year but its pre-production is well under way, as is the social media buzz around it. Director David Ayer has taken to Twitter to interact with fans, reveal photos, and even join up with Jared Leto, who will be playing the Joker, to give us some hints about the notorious villain.

Ayer has confirmed that Suicide Squad takes place in the same universe as Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, with Zack Snyder producing.

He’s also shown us some pretty cool photos of getting ready to shoot:

Flame throwers are cool and all, but I know what you’re waiting for. We’ve had some pretty incredible performances of the Joker in recent years (Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger, Mark Hamill) so Leto has big shoes to fill. He seems excited, though, and, understandably, Ayer is also confident as you can see by this Twitter exchange:

Majestic’s not the word that I immediately thought of, but it certainly stirs and excitement and intrigue for Leto’s performance which is still in its very early stages. Leto has been a powerhouse lately, especially after winning the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in Dallas Buyers Club. There’s no point doubting him before we see anything, and we got our first “look” yesterday:

Phew, I thought for a minute Leto was going to keep the hair and beard and we’d get a whole new Joker look. However, we still might. With rumors that Leto has been bulking up for the role, many fans are speculating we’re going to see a buff Joker, similar to Frank Miller’s take in All-Star Batman & Robin. It would certainly be a way to differentiate him from his predecessors.

Either way, the cast and crew seem really excited for Suicide Squad and that makes us excited. We can’t wait to get our first looks at the cast in costume and make-up!

Suicide Squad is set to come out on August 5, 2016 and star Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, and Cara Delevingne.

Are you excited for the film? What do you think of Leto’s new clean-shaven look for the role and the possibility of a bulky Joker? Share your thoughts in the comments!
