The pilot for CBS’ upcoming Supergirl started production and, while we’ve seen plenty of little images on social media, we now have our first official look at Melissa Benoist as Kara Zor-El, cousin of Superman. Check out the full costume below.
Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood (Alice in Wonderland, Memoirs of a Geisha, Chicago) created this costume, just as she did for the costumes on Arrow and The Flash. You can see cohesion between all three, especially with material and colors.
The first thought I had when I saw this costume was how much it reminds me of Henry Cavill’s Superman in Man of Steel, mostly due to all the dark colors. While I hope that the colors are brightened for the show (Supers are always supposed to be bright colors, in my mind), the design of the costume looks excellent.
From the boots to the skirt to the tights and the cape, Benoist definitely looks like Supergirl. If we’re going off pictures alone, she’s going to nail this.
Supergirl is set to premiere this Fall on CBS, starring Melissa Benoist, Mechad Brooks, Laura Benanti, Jeremy Jordan, Calista Flockhart, Chyler Leigh, Dean Cain, and Helen Slater.
