The Autobots May Just Return to the Silver Screen

Have you heard the news? Paramount Pictures wants more Transformers and they’re doing something about it.

Deadline reports that Paramount is currently negotiating a deal with Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, I Am Legend), franchise director Michael Bay, executive producer Steven Spielberg, and product Lorenzo di Bonaventura. If this deal comes to fruition, the potential spin-off films to the Transformers franchise will be developed in a writer’s room.

It’s likely that Goldsman’s role will be oversight and development: acquiring writers, nursing the film’s (or films’) premise(s), and general development of the ideas.

With Age of Extinction grossing nearly $1.1. billion (and skyrocketing to the top grossing release ever in China), it’s unsurprising that Paramount wants to move forward with an extended series of films.

Michael Bay, currently in pre-production on his next film 13 Hours, is expected to return in some capacity but has not yet confirmed involvement in these new films.

Hasbro continues its popular toy line, proving that a market for Transformers is still out there. Maybe we’ll even get to see Ultra Magnus in the film.
