Which Two New Characters Join The Flash/Arrow Spinoff Series?

The CW has been busy lately! With casting news for the Arrow/Flash spinoff and previews from tonight’s episode of The Flash (which you can watch below), it’s like Christmas came early.

Two new characters were cast for the unnamed, upcoming spinoff of The Flash and Arrow, which already has Brandon Routh’s Atom, Victor Garber’s Dr. Martin Stein, Wentworth Miller’s Captain Cold, Dominic Purcell’s Heat Wave, and Caity Lotz’s Canary signed on. The team-up series will be set in the same continuity as The CW’s Arrow and The Flash.

First up is Hawkgirl, to be played by Ciara Renée! Kendra Saunders is the latest version of Hawkgirl, first appearing 1999 and taking up residence in Earth 2 as Hawkgirl in The New 52, and now she’ll join the DC television universe. Renée is known for her Broadway roots, appearing in both Big Fish and Pippin.

The second character cast in the spinoff is Rip Hunter, to be played by Doctor Who’s Arthur Darvill. Hunter, a time traveler who first appeared 1959’s Showcase #20, is described as a “Han Solo-esque rogue who gets by with his charm … His razor-sharp wit hides the pain of a man who has lived through serious conflict. He also harbors many secrets, always leaving both his teammates and the audience unsure of his true allegiances.”

Darvill also appeared on Broadway in the show Once.

Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, Marc Guggenheim and Sarah Schechter will executive produce and the show is expected to debut as a mid-season premiere in 2016.

Lastly, Mark Hamill made his debut on The Flash tonight in the episode titled “Tricksters.”

Here’s the synopsis for the episode:

“A copycat killer who goes by the name “The Trickster” (guest star Devon Graye) starts setting off bombs in Central City. In order to stop the villain, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Joe (Jesse L. Martin) meet with the original Trickster, a criminal mastermind named James Jesse (guest star Mark Hamill), who has been imprisoned for 20 years. Things quickly go from bad to worse when the Tricksters unite and take Henry (John Wesley Shipp) prisoner. Meanwhile, Iris (Candice Patton) asks Eddie (Rick Cosnett) for help with a case, and flashbacks show how Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) came up with the idea for the particle accelerator.”
