We’ve had our first look at the Thing in Josh Trank’s upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four, but are you ready to see the villainous Doctor Doom? That’s exactly what we get from the first official trailer, which you can watch below.
The teaser trailer was mostly aesthetic, but this new three-minute trailer gives the best look yet at the plot and characters.
The movie focuses on what makes the comics so great: science, technology, exploration, and progress. While this film has an overall darker feel, the new trailer gives us some lighter moments, and introduces a humorous dynamic between our four heroes.
Dr. Storm (Reg E. Cathey), after six years of coming up short in scientific advances, finally has a new prospect: Reed Richards (Miles Teller).
We get a good idea of the main characters. Reed, who wants his work to contribute something to the world; Sue Storm (Kata Mara), who’s intelligent and witty; her brother, Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan), who’s playful, rebellious, but just as smart; and Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell), as Reed’s best friend and referred to as “the muscle” in the trailer.
After what looks like a particularly horrifying trip across dimensions, the four are imbued with superpowers and the trailer showcases each of them individually.
There’s action and an overwhelming theme of saving not only each other, but the world, which has always been part of the comics.
Near the end of the trailer, we finally see Doctor Doom (real name Victor Domashev in this film) in all his hooded and metal masked glory. It’s brief, but epic. He’s an anti-social programmer in this take.
Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on August 7, 2015. Josh Trank is directing with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, and Reg E. Cathey starring.
