Captain America Is with Marvel Till the End of the Line, Or at Least Through 2019

Avengers: Age of Ultron hasn’t come out in the United States yet (this week!) and Marvel is already gearing up for future films. The way the company churns out films and builds their ever-growing universe is like a well oiled machine at this point.

Actor Chris Evans’ (Steve Rogers) comments about the next big team-up film, Avengers: Infinity War – Part I and II, are proof of this.

In speaking to Esquire, he commented about his upcoming shooting schedule for Marvel:

“We start [Captain America: Civil War] in a couple weeks, and then that shoots until August or something like that. August or September. Then I’ve got some downtime and I can do with it as I please. I don’t know if I want to take time off or go pursue another directing job or find a movie to act in or, you know, do whatever I’m creatively inclined to pursue or wait, relax, enjoy my life. And then we start the Infinity War, I think, some time in the third quarter. Fall or winter of 2016. That’s going to be like nine months to shoot both movies back to back.”

Thanos-Infinity-Gauntlet The timeline adds up. Evans teams up with directors Joe and Anthony Russo again for Civil War, which comes out May of next year. Starting Infinity War in fall/winter of 2016 gives the Russo brothers, who are directing the two-parter, time for pre-production and then plenty of time to shoot and do post-production before the 2018 and 2019 releases of Part I and II, respectively.

Infinity War will see the end of Evans’ six-picture contract with Marvel. Then we can probably expect someone else to pick up the mantle of Captain America. It will most likely be Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) who has a nine-picture deal and has only been in two movies so far (Civil War will be his third, which is when his character becomes the Star Spangled Man in the comics).

All we can take away from this is that Marvel has a plan for us, a plan that has been in the works since 2008’s Iron Man.

Tell us: Are you on board for Marvel’s Phase Three? What movies are you most looking forward to?
