Hot on the heels of Martin Freeman joining the cast of Captain America: Civil War, even more characters have joined as the next big Marvel film begins production.

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty details, here’s the synoposis for the third installment in the Captain America series:

“‘Captain America: Civil War’ picks up where ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo also confirm that the heart of the film will still be “Steve Rogers’ complicated relationship with his childhood friend Bucky Barnes”.

We’ve mentioned before how the film’s cast is already big but we didn’t realize the half of it. More familiar characters have been confirmed to show up in the past few days.

winter-soldier Here’s who you’ll see in Civil War: Chris Evans (Captain America), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Paul Bettany (Vision), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Don Cheadler (War Machine), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Paul Rudd (Ant-Man), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Emily VanCamp (Agent 13), Daniel Brühl (unknown), Frank Grillo (Crossbones), William Hurt (Thunderbolt), and Martin Freeman (unknown).

Is this Captain America 3 or Avengers 2.5? It’s hard to tell.

The confirmed additions of Vision, Scarlet Witch, and War Machine round out the film with the new Avengers team established at the end of Age of Ultron.

Spider-Man’s missing from the list but it’s expected he’ll make an appearance. He’s probably not included either because he hasn’t been cast yet or they want to keep it secret. Nick Fury and Maria Hill are also missing, which could be intentional depending on SHIELD’s role in the film.

Despite the overly packed film, we have hope that the Russo brothers and screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have a good film in store for us following their Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The film has just begun production in Atlanta, Georgia. They’re also expected to shoot in locations like Germany, Puerto Rico and Iceland.

Captain America: Civil War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.
