Brad Bird to Helm the Parr Family Saving the World Again

It was only a matter of time before the Disney/Pixar film The Incredibles got a sequel. It is the dawn of superheroes in Hollywood, after all.

The sequel was confirmed last year and director Brad Bird (who also directed the first one) recently told Collider that it’s his next project.

The film he’s been working on, Disney’s Tomorrowland, comes out on May 22nd and then his sights turn to the Parr family.

However, it sounds like he’s been thinking about The Incredibles 2 for a while:

“Oh yeah I have pages, a bunch of pages. I had a lot of ideas for the original Incredibles that I didn’t get a chance to use, that I like. I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit and there wasn’t enough time in Incredibles. There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie. I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.”

Brad-Bird Bird is a talented director, both of animation and live-action, so we think “interesting” is just scratching the surface. His other work, such as The Iron Giant or Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, can attest to this.

He was even approached to helm a Star Wars film back before J.J. Abrams was picked for The Force Awakens. He commented:

“Well Kathy (Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm) and I have discussed the possibility of—I mean she’s basically saying this is a very large sandbox and other people can play in it. I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up and—J.J. got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too. But I kind of—I’m writing a sequel to The Incredibles and I can’t think too much farther beyond that. I have other things I want to do as well.”

It sounds like the door definitely isn’t shut for Bird, but that he has plenty of work to focus on if Star Wars doesn’t happen.

Either way, we look forward to every movie he puts out and we’re definitely excited for The Incredibles 2.
