This November, the most successful post-apocalyptic young adult literature series concludes on the big screen. As the second half of the two-part movie series finale, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 has a lot riding on it. Get your first look at the highly anticipated film in the trailer below!
This last film picks up where the last one left off – with protagonist Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) preparing for the final assault against President Snow (Donald Sutherland) and the Capitol.
The first part of the finale was criticized for having a slow burn, and wondering why the last book had to be split into two films at all (a problem that plagues literature series adaptations as of late). In that vein, it’s likely this film will be more of the action-packed finale it’s meant to be.
Still, the trailer reveals there will be quieter character moments too, such as the wedding between Finnick Odair (Sam Claflin) and Annie Cresta (Stef Dawson) as well as Peeta Mellark (Josh Hutcherson) struggling to recover from the abuse he faced at the hands of the Capitol.
We also get our first look at Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie as Commander Lyme!
All we can hope is that this film will be the pay-off we’ve been waiting for as Katniss’ story comes to an end.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 is set to be released on November 20, 2015. It’s directed by Francis Lawrence and stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Donald Sutherland, Natalie Dormer, Elizabeth Banks, Julianne Moore, Woody Harrelson, Jena Malone, and Stanley Tucci.
