Marvel and Sony Finally Find Their New Spider-Man in Young English Actor

Tom Holland Spider-Man

We reported that Marvel was looking at Asa Butterfield to be their new Spider-Man but that is no longer the case.

As of today, Tom Holland is officially your new friendly neighborhood Spider-Man!

The relative unknown actor is best known for his role in The Impossible and his stint on the miniseries Wolf Hall. He can next be seen in Ron Howard’s In the Heart of the Sea. However, his Instagram shows that he already has the moves to play Spidey.

It’s been a long search for the new webslinger but the 19 year-old English actor landed the part after extensive testing under Marvel president Kevin Feige and Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal.

While Peter Parker will get a new solo film in 2017 from Sony and under director Jon Watts (which has been promised not to be an origin story), we’ll first see Holland in the role in the upcoming (and crowded) Captain America: Civil War.

After a lot of speculation and fans voicing who they wanted to be the new Spider-Man, this is an unsurprising choice. Next year we’ll find out if he’s up to the task!

Captain America: Civil War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

Are you excited to see another Spider-Man? How do you think Tom Holland will do? Sound off in the comments!
