Could We See Wesley Snipes’ Blade Battling Vampires in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Believe it or not, there were superhero films before the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). I know, right? One of the most successful was Marvel’s 1998 film Blade which spawned two sequels.

Telling the story of Eric Brooks who protects humanity from elements of darkness (namely vampires), the character and films are popular among fans. However, there’s been no word on continuing the character’s film story — until now.

At San Diego Comic-Con yesterday, actor Wesley Snipes (who portrayed Brooks in the films), spoke with Deadline about meeting with Marvel:

“The project is controlled by Marvel and we did have a really productive and a wonderful meeting and we discussed a number of things. I don’t know where it’s on their schedule at this point, that hasn’t been decided. I guess it’s still up in the air.”

While nothing’s set in stone, this is much better news than we’ve received in a long time. Meeting with Marvel at least means there’s an interest in the character. It would be really cool to see a character like Blade on Netflix and with the success of Daredevil, anything’s possible.

When Deadline asked if joining the MCU as someone other than Blade was possible, Snipes responded:

“I’ve always been a fan of these pieces and adaptations and it’d be nice to be a part of the family again. But if we don’t do a Blade 4 with Marvel, we’ll do something else. We have some other characters and some other concepts that are going to be just as exciting and hopefully just as successful.”

Snipes made a great Blade but seeing him in the MCU at all would be awesome, so that’s what we’re hoping for.

You can next see Wesley Snipes in his brand new TV show The Player, set to premiere on NBC this fall.

Do you want to see Blade join the MCU? If he didn’t play Blade, what Marvel character would you want Snipes to play? Share your ideas in the comments!
