Chris Pine Has Signed with Warner Bros. to Fall in Love with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman

In an effort to make sure they get at least one Hollywood Chris (and Marvel doesn’t steal them all), TheWrap is reporting that DC and Warner Bros. have signed Chris Pine for 2017’s Wonder Woman.

The actor will reportedly be playing love interest Steve Trevor.

This is not the first time Pine, known for playing Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek franchise, has been linked to the DC cinematic universe.

Recently, he was rumored to be up for the role of Hal Jordan, one of the Green Lanterns.

Now, however, he’s signed a multi-picture deal to play Steve Trevor opposite Gal Gadot in the Patty Jenkins directed Wonder Woman.

In the comics, Trevor was an intelligence officer in the United States Army Air Corps who crashed on Paradise Island. When Princess Diana nursed him back to health, they fell in love. Their story has been revamped over the years (obviously, this is the comic book industry we’re talking about) so it will be interesting to see what dynamic the movie sets up for them.

TheWrap does say that he “will be no mere love interest for Gadot’s Diana Prince, as there will be plenty of action to keep him busy.”

Not that that was a particular concern, seeing as Wonder Woman can easily handle the action, but okay.

You can next see Chris Pine in projects like Wet Hot American Summer on Netflix, Z for Zachariah, and the currently filming Star Trek Beyond.

Wonder Woman, directed by Petty Jenkins and starring Gal Gadot and Chris Pine, is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017. You can first see Gadot as the Amazon princess in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
