Final Fantastic Four Extended Look Offers Science, Action, and a Surprise Guest

20th Century Fox’s next foray into the superhero realm has received every kind of backlash you can imagine (casting, production rumors, canon changes, a questionable marketing campaign) but Fantastic Four finally hits theaters this Friday and people will get to decide for themselves.

Until then, the studio released one final extended look at the film (complete with a surprise guest appearance!), which you can watch below, and responses from early screenings are starting to hit the web.

The sneak peek, clocking in at three and a half minutes, is a lot of what we’ve seen before: young Reed Richards (Miles Tellers) is a brilliant mind who goes to work with Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey) alongside his children, the equally accomplished Sue Storm (Kate Mara) and her brother, the talented but rebellious Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan). Ben Grimm (Jamie Belle) is Reed’s longtime friend and something of a protector.

When they successfully teleport to another dimension, they come back with strange new powers. The government wants to use them as weapons and chaos ensues. Dr. Doom (Tony Kebbell) also comes into play somehow but that plot point has been largely kept under wraps.

There’s plenty of action in the video and the more I see of the main cast, the more I’m eager to see them in these roles. I think they’ll breathe a lot of life into these characters and their stale cinematic presence.

Plus, at the end of the video, Deadpool shows up! No, not in a crossover unfortunately, but to announce the trailer for his film will be attached to Fantastic Four in theaters.

As for those early responses, here are a few:

It’d be no surprise if the Fox PR team monitors these responses, but people being excited about the film is refreshing and hopefully a good sign. Not everyone’s going to love it, but given the uphill battle this movie’s faced already, to see it do well would be awesome.

Fantastic Four is set to hit theaters on August 7, 2015. Josh Trank is directing with Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, and Reg E. Cathey starring.

Are you excited for this film? Are you planning to see it this weekend? Let us know in the comments!
