The Flash Casts Young, Unknown Actor as Wally West

Look out, Barry Allen, there’s another speedster headed for Central City! The hit CW show The Flash officially cast their Wally West: Keiynan Lonsdale!

It was announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2015 that the second season would see the first appearances of both Jay Garrick and Wally West. Garrick, the first Flash, will be played by Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex).

Now, we also have our Wally West, the first Kid Flash who becomes the third Flash after Barry. Australian actor Keiynan Lonsdale zooms into the show as a series regular for Season 2. Lonsdale, a relative unknown, has appeared in projects like Insurgent and Dance Academy.

Rest assured, however, because executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said of the casting:

“Just like when we met Grant (Gustin, Barry Allen) for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero. We are so excited to be bringing this much-beloved character onto the show.”

In the comics, Wally is the nephew of Iris West (played by Candice Patton in the series) and since we know she has no siblings on the show, it’s likely his history will have to be tweaked. A cousin, perhaps? Or maybe even he is her nephew, but in Earth-2.

Whatever it ends up being, it’s exciting to see more Flash mythos explored on the show. It’s something this series has really succeeded at so far.

Season 2 of The Flash will premiere on October 6th on The CW.
