New Captain America: Civil War Photos Reveal Cap and Iron Man’s Teams

We know the characters in Marvel’s upcoming film Captain America: Civil War, and now, after months of speculating, we know the teams.

Courtesy of Comic Book Movie, official art has revealed who is Team Captain America and who is Team Iron Man in the film; some of the choices may surprise you.

First up, Captain America:

We have Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp), Falcon (Anthony Mackie), Winter Solider (Sebastian Stan), and the leader himself, Cap (Chris Evans).

If you’ve seen Ant-Man, his inclusion on this team won’t surprise you but that’s all I’ll say for those who haven’t seen it. The rest of the characters make sense as well.

Now let’s get to Iron Man:

This lineup includes: War Machine (Don Cheadle), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Vision (Paul Bettany), and of course Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.).

All right, Marvel, I’ve got a bone to pick with you. War Machine and Vision make sense, we have no idea how Black Panther comes into this (although set photos had led me to believe he might be Team Cap), but why is Black Widow on Iron Man’s team? After The Winter Solider and Age of Ultron, there better be a good explanation for this.

Granted, Black Widow is the realist to Cap’s idealist and I can see an argument made for her to be on Iron Man’s team and it would be interesting to see her and Cap at odds… but there still better be a good explanation.

Plus this pits Hawkeye and Black Widow against each other, which should give way to some intense scenes between them, like the one briefly shown at D23.

Fans will also notice a major player is missing – Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch. She’s not in any of these promo photos, which leads me to believe she either isn’t on any one side or her role is a mystery for a reason. Spider-Man (Tom Holland) is also absent but that’s not surprising given his role is probably going to be under-wraps for a while.

Captain America: Civil War, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and starring Chris Evans, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey. Jr, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner, Daniel Brühl, Chadwick Boseman, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Bettany, Emily VanCamp, Martin Freeman, and Don Cheadle, is set to hit theaters on May 6, 2016.

What do you think of the teams? Are looking forward to seeing them duke it out? Let us know in the comments!
