The brand new Ghostbusters film is in the middle of production and while it already has a top-notch cast, now we know of one more face that’s going to pop up, one that will make fans happy.
Bill Murray, who played Peter Venkman in the original 1984 comedy classic, will have a cameo in the upcoming film. In an interview with Vulture, the actor spoke about his cameo:
“You know, they were incredibly nice to ask me, and I really enjoyed being there. They have such a jolly group, and they are going to have great success with this project. I didn’t want to overshadow [them] or anything, and I feel really good about it.. I like those girls a lot. I mean, I really do. They are tough to say no to. And Paul is a real nice fellow.”
It’s also comforting to hear how supportive he is of the film, and recognizing that the film isn’t about him.
However, he acknowledges that the decision wasn’t immediate:
“I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].”
There it is: Murray doesn’t disapprove of this film – rather he respects the project, and those involved with it. Good for him!
Now the fun begins with trying to figure out what his cameo could be. He won’t be playing Venkman again, just as Dan Ackroyd won’t be playing Raymond Stantz in his cameo, so who will they be playing? And do you even want to know before you see the movie?
Ghostbusters, directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Andy Garcia, is set to hit theaters on July 22, 2016
