Is This the Real Life? Pokémon Go Mobile Game Lets You Catch Pokémon in Real Life

The future is here. And by future, I obviously mean the all-important new augmented reality Pokémon Go mobile game where you can catch Pokémon in real life.

Developed by Niantic, a former Google start-up and creative force behind the popular augmented reality game Ingress, this new game will allow you to get some fresh air and interact with the real world while also catching Pokémon. Best of both worlds.

Here’s the basic rundown of gameplay: using your iPhone or Android, you can find and catch Pokémon, trade Pokémon with friends, battle, and attend timed public battles in specific locations.

Pokemon Go Plus Okay, that sounds sweet. But you don’t want to stare at your phone all day (as if you’re not doing that already)? Don’t worry, that’s where the Pokémon Go Plus comes in.

A smartwatch device developed by Nintendo, it lights up and vibrates when Pokémon are near your location in real life. Boom! The power of technology.

Tsunekazu Ishihara, President and CEO of The Pokémon Company, said at the press conference to announce the game that he’s been working on this game with the late Satoru Iwata of Nintendo for two years.

He also said the inspiration behind the game was promoting “socialization across both the virtual world and the real world, in order to further enrich both.”

Pokémon Go will be available for free in 2016, with in-app purchases available. There’s no set price yet for the watch.

Tell us: are you super pumped for Pokémon Go? Which Pokémon are you most excited to catch?
