Sigourney Weaver Is the Fifth Original Cast Member to Join Ghostbusters Reboot

Another original cast member has been added to the Ghostbusters reboot: Sigourney Weaver!

She joins the three original Ghostbusters (Ernie Hudson, who had less than nice words to say about the reboot, was confirmed to be in the reboot last week) as well as Annie Potts (who played receptionist Janine Melnitz in the first two films).

So where does this information come from? Director Paul Feig himself:

The first part of his tweet refers to the fact that he didn’t want any of these cameos leaked as they were meant to be surprises when we all see the film in theaters.

I get where he’s coming from, they would have been really fun surprises but unfortunately this is just par for the course of films in the age of social media.

Regardless, the cameos are public now and I think Weaver is one of the most exciting ones! Even if she was poorly used in the first film, she’s a fantastic actress and she and Bill Murray were the best parts of the first film, so I can only hope their cameos will be together.

They won’t be playing their original characters, as Feig has confirmed this film is a hard reboot, but I’m excited to see how they’ll factor in at all.

Ghostbusters, directed by Paul Feig and starring Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones, Chris Hemsworth, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Andy Garcia, is set to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.

Are you excited to see Sigourney Weaver again? Who do you hope she’ll play? Sound off in the comments!
