Marvel and FOX Are Developing Two Live-Action X-Men TV Shows

After the huge response to Marvel and Sony making a deal to share Spider-Man, Fox is jumping in on the action and partnering with Marvel to expand the X-Men universe.

How, you ask? With two live-action TV shows! Yup, you’re going to get mutants on your TV screen week after week. Cue the Hallelujah chorus.

The first show will air on Fox and be called Hellfire. In Marvel’s official announcement, they describe the show as following:

Set in the late 1960s, the series — which will be produced by 20th Century Fox Television and Marvel Television, with 20th Century Fox handling the physical production — follows a young Special Agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires – known as “The Hellfire Club” – to take over the world.

Emma Frost, Emma Frost, Emma Frost.

“We are thrilled to partner with Marvel to bring this world to television and build upon the vibrant mythology that has captivated fans for years,” says David Madden, President of Fox.

Patrick McKay and JD Payne will write the pilot and script and big names from both sides, such as Jeph Loeb (head of Marvel Television) and Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past, X-Men: Apocalypse), will executive produce.

The second show, titled Legion, will be part of FX family and Marvel describes the show as:

The story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

In the comics, Haller is the son of X-Men founder Charles Xavier and a very powerful mutant who can absorb other people’s psyches and manifest their powers.

Noah Hawley (Fargo, Bones) is tapped to write the script and once again, people like Loeb and Singer will executive produce.

And despite rumors, the Fantastic Four also still remain at 20th Century Fox.
