Marvel Comics Announces Brand-New Punisher Series

We’re about to see the Punisher come to life in Daredevil Season 2 but before that, get ready to see him in the comics again!

ComicBook.com exclusively revealed today that Marvel is launching an all new series starring Frank Castle from writer Becky Cloonan (Demo, Gotham Academy) and artist Steve Dillon (Punisher MAX, Preacher).

When Frank learns that a new drug creates unstable super soldiers, he digs deeper into the story, learning he has a connection to it.

In interviewing Cloonan, she reveals they’ll be taking Punisher to interesting places:

“Things are going to start out in a familiar enough place, but soon The Punisher is going to find himself in an unfamiliar environment without a lot of the things he usually relies on. We are going to strip away some of his layers, and push him right to the limit. I want to see how far he’ll go to accomplish his goals. A few people have said some of the stuff we are planning is reminiscent of Punisher MAX, which is nothing but the highest of compliments!”

He’ll be working alone for the most part, but there will be plenty of new characters in the series as well.

Cloonan also says that if you’re a criminal, “the Punisher is basically Jason Vorhees.” Yeah. Definitely not someone you want to cross.

The series will debut in early 2016.

Are you excited to see more of the Punisher? Sound off in the comments!
