One of the things people are buzzing most about with the upcoming Suicide Squad film is the portrayal of Jared Leto’s Joker.
Thanks to latest issue of Empire, we now have a better look at this incarnation of the Clown Prince of Crime, as well as other characters in the film.
When the first picture of Leto’s Joker was revealed, fans were split. Despite having time to become used to it, fans still seem to be skeptical, if reactions to today’s photos are anything to go by (mostly a lot of Hot Topic jokes). Ready to check it out for yourself?
The snakeskin suit and sweatpants were briefly seen in the trailer, but this more full-on look gives a better idea of what this film is going for.
The tattoos and use of the words “psycho” and “killer” give the impression this incarnation is dangerous, erratic, and unpredictable.
“I always get the sense that The Joker may be much older than people think,” Leto ponders. “It’s something different. If you don’t break rules, you’re not going to strike new ground. I think I’ll be cooling down for the rest of my life.”
In this issue of Empire there are also descriptions of other characters in the film, straight from the performers’ mouths and thanks to ComicBookMovie.com, we have those for you too.
Katana (Karen Fukuhara): “She has morals and codes. She’s can also slice through hundreds of people without taking a breath.”
Slipknot (Adam Beach): “He’s formidable. He can climb anything. And he hangs people for a living. I joke that he was caught strangling Wonder Woman. I downloaded this app called Grog Knots. Now I could tie up a horse.”
Boomerang (Jai Courtney): “He’s an absolute bogan, in the purest sense. Dave’s first instruction was, ‘Find your inner shitbag.'”
Diablo (Jay Hernandez): “Most of these guys are happy to get out there and kill people, but he just wants to stay out of the fight.”
Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje): “He’s a cannibal with rage issues. Although he only eats the most talented people. He’s picky.”
Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman): “Flag is the highest level operator working for the government. He’s had lots of friends die and has killed many, many people. Deadshot gives him the most problems. Harley is easily distracted, but up for following orders if it means destroying things…”
Regardless of how this movie turns out, it’s definitely going to be full of memorable characters and performances, for better or worse.
Suicide Squad is set to come out on August 5, 2016. It will be directed by David Ayer and will star Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, Will Smith, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Scott Eastwood, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Ike Barinholtz, Jim Parrack and Adam Beach.
