Quicksilver’s Expanded Role in X-Men: Apocalypse Revealed

There’s no doubt about it. Evan Peters’ small role as Quicksilver (real name Peter) was one of the most popular parts of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Now we know he’ll have an even bigger role in the next X-Men film, Apocalypse.

In this next film, which Peters calls “the biggest X-Men film” in an interview with Details, the titular Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) tries to destroy the world with his Four Horsemen: Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Archangel (Ben Hardy), and Psylocke (Olivia Munn).

Quicksilver is not about that apocalyptic life, though. He’s on more of a personal journey, according to Peters:

“The story is that my character is searching for his father and wants to find him. It starts there and then he jumps on the X-Men train and gets sucked up in this whole Apocalypse madness. He tries to stop him from destroying the world.”

Comic fans will recall that his father is someone we know well: Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto.

In fact, Days of Future Past already hinted to this story. When Peter discovers Magneto can control metal, he responds: “My mom once knew a guy who could do that.” It will be interesting to see how this film will explore the relationship, which is fraught and complicated and fascinating in the comics (especially when you throw Wanda into the mix, which this film probably won’t do).

Peters didn’t have much to do in Days of Future Past besides act as a one-trick pony, but hopefully his larger role in Apocalypse will prove to be meatier.

X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theatres on May 27, 2016, directed by Bryan Singer, and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Rose Byrne, Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, Olivia Munn, and Oscar Isaac.
