SNL Nails It with Parody TV Ad for Star Wars: The Force Awakens Toys

Ah, toys. It’s something we know entirely too well here, so when I was watching Saturday Night Live this weekend and suddenly a commercial for Star Wars toys came on, my attention was piqued…

And then I realized it was a parody commercial from SNL themselves and I could not stop laughing.

Some of the variety show’s humor is at its best when it’s biting like this. It doesn’t hold back any punches, and Bobby Moynihan, Taran Killam, and Kyle Mooney hilariously deliver their lines to a slightly weird laugh track.

When Mooney stumbles into a kid’s shot, saying he has three of each toy, “one to display, one to open, and one just in case,” it’s hard not to laugh as the kid asks him why and he just awkwardly stares into the camera.

Comedy’s a brilliant genre that’s hard to do, as SNL is evidence of in spades, but when they get it right, they really get it right. This video is clearly made in good fun, and I love it.

Oh, and casual reminder that Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out THIS WEEK.
