Find Out Who Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen Are Playing in Doctor Strange

Well, sort of.

After revealing the first photos of Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular character in Doctor Strange, Entertainment Weekly offers even more details about Marvel’s most mystical film yet.

While we don’t get any character names, plenty of details were revealed about Rachel McAdams and Mads Mikkelsen’s characters and from them we can make some educated guesses.

Rachel Mcadams, confirmed in September, was heavily rumored to play Clea (my number one pick), but it doesn’t sound like that’s the case, if Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige’s comments are anything to go by:

“Rachel McAdams plays a fellow surgeon that has a history with Strange and is his sort of lynchpin to his old life, once he steps into he role of a sorcerer. She is someone he connects with at the beginning, and reconnects with, and helps anchor his humanity.”

Executive producer Stephen Broussard goes on to describe her as an “audience point of view” character and I’m thinking more and more that she’s actually playing an iteration of Night Nurse.

When asked the uninspiring question about her character being a romantic lead, Cumberbatch responded: “I’m not sure if I’m allowed to say what the interest is, but if I hit on her more than the Ancient One, put it like that.”

Let’s hope there’s a lot more to it than that.

As for Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen, who was announced very recently, he’ll once again be playing a villain. The main villain, according to Broussard.

Many fans assumed Chiwetel Ejiofor, as Baron Mardo, would be the main villain, but with this new information, it could be possible that Mardo’s being set-up as a more long-term villain for the inevitable sequel.

So which villain will Mikkelsen be portraying? Feige weighs in: “Mads’ character is a sorcerer who breaks off into his own sect. [He] believes that the Ancient One is just protecting her own power base and that the world may be better off if we were to allow some of these other things through.”

He also adds that none of the names that have been tossed around so far are accurate. Iiiiiinteresting.

Doctor Strange is set to to come out on November 4, 2016, with Scott Derrickson directing and Jon Spaihts penning the script. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tilda Swinton, Michael Stuhlbarg, Rachel McAdams, and Mads Mikkelsen.

What do you think of these character details? Who do you think they’re playing? Let us know in the comments!
