Cloverfield Sequel No One Knew Was Coming Gets a Trailer and Hits Theaters in Two Months

In 2008, a little film that no one knew anything about became a viral sensation. Cloverfield, with its found footage and marketing campaign, had people talking nonstop. Well, it looks like producer J.J. Abrams and team are at it again.

A trailer for a movie called 10 Cloverfield Lane was attached to Michael Bay’s 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi and it got people buzzing.

Surprise! We’re getting a (maybe) sequel to Cloverfield and it comes out in two months! Check out the trailer, officially released by Paramount:

I said maybe up there because it’s not being sold as a sequel. Abrams describes it as a “blood relative of Cloverfield” and that they “wanted to hold back the title for as long as possible.”

What this movie might be is the fallout from Cloverfield, set years later in a dangerous and post-apocalyptic world after monsters ransacked it. But that’s just a guess and like with Cloverfield, we might not even know if that’s really the case once we do see it.

However, the trailer’s good, and a lot better than anything I was expecting. It also turns out to be the film Bad Robot had announced as Valenica, directed by Dan Trachtenberg, starring John Goodman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and John Gallagher, Jr., and released with this synopsis:

The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.

Oh, Abrams, you and your Mystery Box!

This might be one to check out.

10 Cloverfield Lane will hit theaters on March 11, 2016.
