5 Reasons to Be Excited About Marvel’s Agent Carter Season 2 Premiere Tonight

Tonight’s the two-hour Season 2 premiere of Marvel’s Agent Carter and I’m so excited for it. And guess what? You should be too!

It’s not only led by one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s best heroes, Peggy Carter, portrayed fabulously by Hayley Atwell, but it’s whip-smart and exciting to have a female-led show like this.

I think we’ll be getting a great second season, and here are five reasons to tune in tonight and look forward to the upcoming season!

Hollywood

Who doesn’t love the glitz and glamour of Classic Hollywood? Peggy will make a big move to La-La-Land in Season 2, and I look forward to the new setting. With a noir tone, it could prove to be a location ripe for intrigue and fantastic storytelling.

Maybe I’m biased because I grew up here, or because I love this time period in Hollywood’s history, but I can’t wait to see what Los Angeles has in store for our heroine.

I certainly hope one of those things is a shout-out to old Hollywood starlets – or perhaps even a cameo? How great would it be to see Peggy meet Katharine Hepburn?! Either way, I predict the move will be a good thing for Season 2.

Peggy and Jarvis

By far one of the best aspects in Season 1 was the friendship between Peggy and Jarvis (James D’Arcy), and I can’t wait to see it continue. Their perfectly timed banter, supportive relationship, and general chemistry make them a duo to certainly be wowed by.

They’re such a rich pair, because they’re great as individual characters, but they also add plenty more layers to the larger MCU as we’ve seen their ripple effect and how they’ve influenced our more modern characters.

And according to Atwell in an interview with Variety, we have plenty to look forward to when it comes to Peggy and Jarvis:

“But one thing that’s strengthened so much more this season is her relationship with Jarvis (James D’Arcy). … That’s where I have my heart — there’s a lot of fun to be had with Jarvis and I love the fun that we had with this, the humor of it all.

I met a lot of fans, I spoke to a lot of them, and even a lot of reviewers, and they love the Jarvis and Peggy dynamic and the showrunners, and the writers, and myself and James listened to that and we love doing it so much. The writers love writing Peggy and Jarvis; James and I love playing that dynamic, so that was kind of a no-brainer, really, that in this season we’d really put them at the center. The heart of it is certainly in their relationship and then also the relationship that Jarvis has with his wife, so there’s no shortage of Jarv in there.”

New Characters

And speaking of Jarvis’ wife, she’s only one of the many new characters to be introduced this season but if MTV’s review is correct, she definitely one to look forward to:

“And then there’s the long-awaited Anna Jarvis (Lotte Verbeek), who’s bound to be everyone’s new favorite. A lesser show would have her seething with jealousy at the amazing chemistry Peggy and her husband Jarvis (James D’Arcy) have with one another as partners in crime-fighting, but not “Agent Carter,” in which Mrs. Jarvis seems to platonically ship them as hard as we do (OT3, anybody?).”

Then there’s scientist Jason Wilkes (Reggie Austin), who becomes not only a love interest for Peggy but a charming, captivating character in his own right. The show received criticism in its first season for a lack of racial diversity, and given the praise Wilkes has so far received in reviews, I think he’ll be a great new character.

The big bad of Season 2 is Whitney Frost (Wynn Everett), who’s described as having parallels to Lady Macbeth in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. I’m already very intrigued!

She’ll become this show’s version of Madam Masque, who’s great in the comics, and I hope translates well to television. She’ll also be joined by Season 1’s baddie Dottie Underwood (Bridget Regan).

Ties to the MCU

Of course, Agent Carter has shout-outs to the Captain America franchise and is basically the starting point for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but guess what Marvel movie Season 2 will have connections with?

Doctor Strange!

Revealed in EW, Season 2 will introduce Darkforce, which the characters just end up calling Zero Matter. It affects everyone who comes into contact with it differently, so it should be an interesting plot point in the show, and it’s also cool to see the show tying into the MCU in unique ways.

Hayley Atwell

The heart of this show really rests with lead actress Hayley Atwell. She has turned Peggy Carter into one of the most compelling and popular characters in the MCU. She has a quiet strength and resolve that one must have to carry a show, but she is also intensely likable. Not to mention she can totally kick anyone’s butt.

Atwell plays Peggy so wonderfully, you can’t help but be captivated by her. I think the arc she’ll have in this season will be fantastic, not least of all because she’s finally getting to a point where she can move on from Captain America.

The premiere will air tonight on ABC at 9 pm. And before it, be sure to check out Marvel’s Captain America: 75 Heroic Years airing at 8 pm!
