Celebrate Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary This Year with These Awesome Events

In case you didn’t know, this year is Star Trek’s 50th Anniversary!

Thanks to USA Today, we now have an idea of some of the awesome things that will be going down this year to commemorate the beloved series’ milestone.

Star Trek — 50 Artists, 50 Years

This exhibit will be unveiled at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and feature art from the series by 50 different artists. One of those artist will be the late Leonard Nimoy, who played Mr. Spock in the original television show. After SDCC, the exhibit will travel to other locations.

Trek Talks

As USA Today describes, think TED Talks, but about Star Trek. At schools, science museums, and entertainment venues, experts will lead discussions and speeches on various themes and topics that the show itself explored, such as science, space, and diversity. These talks are set to begin in July.

Liz Kalodner, executive vice president of CBS Consumer Products, said that the show made a difference when “you think about a crew of aliens and humans of various ethnicities all working together on the bridge in harmony in the ’60s.”

The Starfleet Academy Experience

At the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa and Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York, fans can enroll at Starfleet Academy! How cool is that? They’ll learn about various things, such as engineering and navigation, all from the point of view of Star Trek.

There will also be a special anniversary convention in Las Vegas in August.

If you want to get started early on the celebrations, you can get tickets for Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage, a traveling concert which features a live orchestra playing music from the television shows and movies, accompanied by relevant scenes.
