How Long Will We Have Marvel and Star Wars Films? Forever, According to Bob Iger

Here’s hoping none of you are getting tired of Marvel and/or Star Wars films!

Disney chairman and CEO Bob Iger recently spoke to the BBC about Disney’s Marvel and Lucasfilm divisions.

He spoke about the multiple projects in the Star Wars universe that are on the horizon:

“There are five Star Wars films – four more with Episode VII: The Force Awakens – that are in varying stages of development and production.”

The four other films, besides The Force Awakens, are the next episodic films, VIII and IX, as well as the two announced spin-off films, Rogue One and the untitled young Han Solo film.

Iger mentioned “there will be more after that,” but he doesn’t know how many or how often. At least there won’t be a decade between each venture back into this universe?

As for Marvel, it’s as wide-open as Star Wars, it seems.

According to Iger: “Marvel, you’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters – that will go on forever.”

Forever certainly seems hyperbolic and counting on people not getting tired of all these films.

But Iger doesn’t think that will be a problem. He says they “keep raising the bar in terms of telling stories that bring them back, that excite them, that make it feel new and that is what we do for a living.”

As CEO, he has to say something like that, but it could turn out to be a much bigger problem than his quote indicates. Still, it’s not something we’ll really know for a few more years in all likelihood.

Would you like to see Marvel and Star Wars films go on forever, or do you think you will grow weary of them? Let us know in the comments!
